Yes, I won an award at the Concours, but there was another one that touched me even more.
All day long I was encouraging kids to sit in my car, wearing my leather driving gloves and steampunk sunglasses. The kids get a kick out of this. Mom and Dad snap photos of their little darlings. This is not the roped off area where the expensive cars display. This is where you get to meet the owners and relate stories of your friends and relatives and others who were once owners of similar cars.
Then this developmentally challenged little girl comes by with her mother and father. I guide her into the drivers seat. She puts on the gloves and sunglasses, and for the next few minutes you would think she was the Queen of England. She waved to the adoring crowd. She owned it completely. Anyone and everyone watching became her subjects. It was really neat.
When she was done, she popped out of the car, daintly removing her gloves and glasses, placing them on the seat. And then she came over to me and gave me a huge hug. And another. And another. I melted. This little child of God has a gift, and she spoons it out like soft butter. This is what love feels like, and it was the best award of the day.
